Long Beach’s 2nd street has plenty of eateries to offer. Babette’s Feast is great for small desserts and hot drinks! I tried their apricot custard, a fruit tart and a vanilla butter almond cookie with a hot English milk tea. I like this place during rainy season. Very comforting!

Wow. It’s been a little over a year since my last post on here. Life certainly got busier and I ended up putting this on the back burner. I’ve rediscovered my inner foodie and now want to make a return to this blog to record all of my experiences for my own personal reference. Sometimes I do get indecisive and this is a great tool to help me choose a spot to eat. I’ve got plenty to share – nearly a year’s worth of food experiences from all over California, Hawaii and New York, so be patient. Plenty more to come…let’s eat!

Not my house but Your House

Your House Thai Restaurant was a place I often ate at during my college years. I haven’t been eating much here but the last time I did, I ordered their amazing Thai Salad. Very filling with calamari portions, chicken and peanut sauce. I also recommend their wor wonton soup and their Paradise Roll, which is one of my favorite baked salmon rolls I’ve ever experienced. Always had a hard time picking what to eat because of their huge selection and two menus! Lots of great lunch specials and happy hour deals on their sushi as well.

This place is usually my comfort zone when it comes to Pho but this time I tried something I had never eaten here – crispy pan-fried noodles with seafood. Delicious!!!

Claws is just as good as Boiling Crab in my opinion and they also have the best strawberry lemonade on Earth. Luckily we didn’t have to suffer a long wait as I have previously experienced dining at BC. I love shrimp!

Katsuhana @ Mitsuwa

I was extremely happy that the venue I was performing at with Culture Shock L.A. last Saturday was literally a block away from Mitsuwa. I took half of the team over there for lunch for their first time Mitsuwa food exprience. They loved it. Surprisingly no one ordered Santouka’s ramen. This time I tried Katsuhana’s chicken tonkatsu. A HUGE helping of katsu with rice and salad for only $5.95! Can’t beat that. Deeeeee-licious and satisfying! Lunch here also always goes good with a glass of Yama Moto Iced Green Tea!

Thai Gourmet by Sri Maya

Without a doubt, one of my top favorite Thai restaurants in Long Beach has to be Sri Maya (somewhat hidden away on the corner of Cherry & PCH). I recently tried their new restaurant Thai Gourmet, developed from the same owner, Ranakorn (Patrick). I was a regular at Sri Maya at one point and Ranakorn was one of the best restaurant owners I’ve ever encountered – friendly and obviously passionate about his service, food, and down to the little details in dishware and interior design. He often let me try their delicious desserts on the house. Thai Gourmet has a wonderful spot on 2nd street and finally Ranakorn has gained the recognition I felt he deserved for the longest time. If you want friendly service, warm greetings, EXCELLENT Thai food that doesn’t shy on authenticity (and spice!) and a nice location in the heart of 2nd street, then this is definitely the place to experience.

Must haves: Pad Thai, Kang Phed Chicken with Roti, Stuffed Egg Plants, Banana Cake, Toffee Cake

Can’t get enough of this place. It’s my default comfort food. Today I ordered the delicious Charbroiled Beef Noodle Vermicelli Bowl with 2 Egg Rolls (Bún Heo Nướng Chả Giò). Lunar New Year special saved us 50% on the 2nd meal. Excellent!
